Lorrca reagents

The Lorrca reagents are delivered in 5 ml vials (Elon ISO and Oxy ISO) or in storage bottles of 0.5 l (Osmo HIGH, Osmo LOW)

In all cases:

  • Store the reagent as indicated on the packaging. Lorrca reagents have a shelf life of one year, when stored between 4-30 °C before opening.
  • After opening Osmo LOW and Osmo HIGH may be stored for 1 month at 4-7 °C
  • Check for turbidity and discard if turbidity has developed
  • Prior to use the reagents must be at room temperature. They may be heated in a 37 °C water bath.
  • Lorrca reagents are strongly adhesive after drying! Therefore, we recommend cleaning the instrument by means of the automated rinse cycle and performing an end of day wash (at the end of the day) !
  • Once the blood is added to the reagent, the mix must be used within 15 minutes.
  • Invert before use, do not shake.

Batch information can be found via the Lorrca website.

  1. Go to www.lorrca.com.
  2. Select "Products" under Our Products.
  3. Click on the link for "Batch information Lorrca Reagents".
  4. On this page all batch information can be found for each Lorrca reagent
  5. Click on the applicable batch number which is mentioned is mentioned on the label.
  6. Check or change (if needed) the default medium viscosity before the first test sequence in the 'Viscosity' field in the Sample data screen

Do not forget to change the default viscosity value* in case of a new reagent batch at Settings screen/General options.

* For Osmoscan measurements the mean of the viscosity of the Osmo HIGH and Osmo LOW has to be set as the medium viscosity.
For measurements other than Osmoscan, the viscosity of the Elon ISO and Oxy ISO (used for blood preparation) has to be set as the medium viscosity.

Correct use of storage bottles:

  • Close the storage bottles immediately after filling the instrument bottles.
  • Transfer the Lorrca reagent directly from storage bottles in instrument bottles.
  • Check for turbidity and discard if turbidity develops.
  • Do not return reagents from the instrument bottles back into the storage bottles.
  • After opening, the reagents can be used for one month, if stored at 4-7°C (this holds for storage in instrument bottles as well as in the storage bottle).
  • Only use the reagent bottles as supplied with the Lorrca Maxsis.
