Air bubbles in diluter

Interrliner, Starrsed RS, Starrsed TL

If the diluter system is not sufficiently primed:

Before aspirating, the citrate system must be free of air bubbles.

Select Maintenance-> Prime -> Prime Diluent, vacuum pump is on and system must be filled with Diluent. When the citrate is priming, liquid should be seen flowing through the tube connection to the fill nozzle cap.

Occasionally when the diluter system is primed for the first time, air locks occur in the tubing and the diluter will not self-prime. If this occurs, disconnect the luer fitting at the syringe and connect a syringe filled with Diluent to the tubing and fill system manually.

  1. Check pick-up tube at the Diluent container, it may be kinked.
  2. One of the Diluent lines has become blocked or kinked.
  3. Check if all tubes are still connected.
  4. Check if the 2 tubes (ESRI070508) are still connected with the tubes ESRI070406.
  5. Check if the 2 tubes positioned correctly in the pinch valve.

If air bubbles are entering the Diluent system:

  1. Check the diluter syringe tip.
  2. Check on the Mixing-piece joints and connectors for leaks and replace if necessary.
  3. Check the connectors on the EDTA flow sensor for leaks and replace if necessary.

Replace diluter tip

  1. Pull the plunger out of the syringe.
  2. Cut the Teflon tip of the plunger with a sharp knife.
Be careful not to damage the metal plunger.
  3. Replace the O-ring and then the tip.
  4. Replace the old tip for the new tip assembly. (From repair set QWLV030901)
  5. Moisten the tip with water to ease the tip back into the glass syringe barrel.
  6. Install the syringe back on to the attachment.
  7. Replace the new plunger in the diluter assembly.

Clean dilution system

  1. Perform Prime diluent

Repeat above step until there are no air bubbles in the whole diluent system anymore.

Check dilution settings

  1. Go to tab Settings> General settings and select Display dilution OFF
  2. Run 10 samples through the instrument and make a note of the dilution rate.
  3. Calculate the mean of the 10 samples.
  4. Make dilution adjustment if necessary in Settings> Diluter settings.
  5. Go to tab Settings> General settings and select Display dilution ON.

Starrsed Compact

If the diluter system is not sufficiently primed:

  1. The Diluent inlet valve is located next to the T-piece junction on top of the syringe.
  2. The Diluent outlet valve is located on the right hand side of the transparent sample probe block.

  1. Check the diluter syringe tip.
  2. Check on the Mixing-piece joints and connectors for leaks and replace if necessary.
  3. Check the connectors on the EDTA flow sensor for leaks and replace if necessary.

Replacing diluter syringe or diluter syringe tip

  1. Take the syringe from the diluter assembly.
  2. Pull the plunger out of the syringe.

If only tips are replaced*:

  1. Pull the plunger out of the syringe.
  2. Cut the Teflon tip of the plunger with a sharp knife.
Be careful not to damage the metal plunger.
  3. Replace the O-ring and then the tip.
  4. Replace the old tip for the new tip assembly. (From repair set QWLV030902)

  6. Install the syringe back on to the attachment.
  7. Replace the new plunger in the diluter assembly.

*Only applicable for Diluter syringe QWLV030009, Diluter syringe QWLV030021 have to be replaced after 2 years

Re-install syringe

  1. Take off tube connector on top of the syringe.
  2. Replace the syringe back on the diluter assembly. Make sure that the flange on the glass barrel is clipped into groove on black plastic back plate.
  3. Tighten the knurled knob on the back plate of the syringe plunger.
  4. Reconnect the tube connector on top of the syringe.
  5. Prime diluent (Menu 2-3) [prime diluent]
  6. Repeat this step until there are no air bubbles in the total diluent system.

Check dilution settings

  1. Select display dilution on (Menu 6-3) [Display dilution on/off].
  2. Run 10 samples through the instrument and make a note of the dilution rate.
  3. Calculate the mean value of the 10 samples.
  4. Make adjustment if necessary in (Menu 7-3) [Dilution adjustment].
