General safety rules

The instrument in this manual is designed to be used by properly trained personnel only. For the correct and safe use of this instrument it is essential that both operating and servicing personnel follow generally accepted safety procedures in addition to the safety precautions specified in this manual.

• Execute your work according to this manual. Read the instructions before operating the instrument. Observe all cautionary markings in the manual and on the instrument. Keep this manual for future reference.
• All instrument maintenance and repair can only be executed by trained and qualified personnel.
• Wear protective clothing and eye protection.
• When the instrument is running it is not allowed to:
  • Open and remove safety covers.
  • Clean moving parts.
  • Give access to a non-authorised person.
  • Leave a running instrument without surveillance
• Whenever it is likely that safety-protection has been impaired, the instrument must be made inoperative and be secured against any unintended operation. The matter should then be referred to qualified technicians.
• Safety protection is likely to be impaired if, for example, the instrument fails to perform the intended measurements or shows visible damage or unusual smells, smoke, liquids are flowing out.
• Do not spill fluids on to the instrument. This could cause a short-circuit. If this happens, turn the main switch OFF immediately and unplug the power cable. Contact your service representative.
• Should the instrument emit unusual odours or smoke, turn the main switch OFF immediately and unplug the power cable. Using the instrument further carries the risk of fire, electric shock or personal injury. Contact your service representative.
• Do not touch the electric circuits inside the instrument particularly with wet hands, as there is a risk of electric shock.
• This instrument must be connected to a power outlet of the correct voltage.
• Avoid damage to the power cable. Do not place any appliances on the power cable nor pull on the power cable.
• Treat reagents according the material safety data sheets. On our web site the latest version of Leaflet on material safety data sheets of the used reagents can be found.
• Use the instrument only for elongation and aggregation measurements the way described in this manual. The vendor is not responsible for any damage or harm resulting from incompetent or undocumented use.
• Inside the instrument laser light is used for both the elongation and aggregation measurements. Avoid direct exposure to the laser radiation since this may cause permanent damage to human tissue. Always close the hood before starting a measurement.
• During measurements with the instrument the cup is rotating. Never touch the cup while it is rotating.
• The waste must be treated as potentially infectious (biohazards) material and disposed of according to local regulations. Check your local environment rules about discharging the waste.
• Inside the instrument hazardous voltages reside. Never open the LoRRca. Leave servicing to qualified service personnel only.
• Avoid exposing the instrument to high temperatures (higher than 35°C), direct sunlight or high humidity (> 70 %).
• Before starting work check the technical condition of the instrument and pay particular attention to:
  • Protective safety parts: Do they work properly and are they in the correct place.
  • Loose tubes: Connect them to the right position. See drawing LORC070020 Tubing diagram
  • Electrical connections: are they not damaged.
  • Light: Does it works properly.
  • Prepare required tools.
